Indore: The death toll due to swine flu has risen to eight in Indore division of the state with one more person succumbing to the infection, a health official said on Tuesday.

A 50-year-old man from Tilak Nagar in Indore was admitted to a private hospital on September 8 where he died on Monday, the official said.

The deceased had tested positive for the H1N1 virus on September 11, he said.

Out of 125 samples sent for testing from Indore division to the ICMR laboratory since May this year, 35 tested positive for the virus while 88 were negative even as two reports were awaited.

When asked about the delay in submitting reports of the patients to the district authorities, medical and health officer J S Sodhi told that despite instructions some hospitals were not following the guidelines.

"They would be reminded of ensuring a liaison with the district medical and health department for proper dissemination of information and awareness about the dreaded disease in society," Sodhi said.
