Sonu Nigam is one of the most versatile and popular singers in the Bollywood today. In a career spanning 18 years, he has given us some beautiful, chart-topping songs. Right from his first hit, Accha Sila Diya from the 1995 film Bewafa Sanam till today, the singer has had a very successful career in the film industry. Though he was initially compared with Mohammad Rafi, Nigam has truly worked hard to carve a niche for himself.

Abhi Mujhme Kahin…, Agneepath
A soulful song by Sonu Nigam, it brings tears to your eyes when you watch Hrithik Roshan meeting his younger sister after a long time.

Inn Lamhon Ke Daaman Me…, Jodhaa Akbar
The chemistry between Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai has been brought out very well in the song. Javed Akhtar's lyrics keep in mind that Jodhaa is a Hindu and Akbar is a Muslim, so Akbar's lines are in Urdu and Jodhaa's lines are in Hindi. Sonu Nigam does full justice to AR Rahman's brilliant music.

Main Agar Kahoon…, Om Shanti Om
Penned by Javed Akhtar again, Main Agar Kahoon is rendered by Sonu Nigam and Shreya Goshal.

Dheere Jalna…, Paheli
A brilliant song by singer Sonu Nigam and composed by MM Kreem.

Tumse Milke Dil Ka…, Main Hoon Na
Picturised on Shah Rukh Khan, Sushmita Sen, Zayed Khan and Amrita Rao, Tumse Milke Dil Ka is like a qawaali with a modern twist. SRK once said this was his favourite song in the film.

Kal Ho Naa Ho…, Kal Ho Naa Ho
Some of Sonu Nigam’s most popular tracks have been for Shah Rukh Khan’s movies. One such great piece of work is the title song of Kal Ho Na Ho. Its lyrics really make you reflect back on your life and his voice is always so mesmerizing. Sonu earned his first and only National award for this song.

Saathiya…, Saathiya
Picturised on Vivek Oberoi and Rani Mukerji, Sonu Nigam sings the title track of Saathiya brilliantly. It's no wonder Rahman likes to use him repeatedly in his songs.

Suraj Hua Maddham…, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham
Shah Rukh Khan likes to use Sonu Nigam's voice repeatedly as well. Sonu created magic in Suraj Hua Maddham, along with Alka Yagnik. The lyrics were written by Anil Pandey and music was composed by Sandesh Shandilya.

Tanhayee…, Dil Chahta Hai
Tanhaayee required high pitch vocals, and Sonu Nigam passed with flying colours. Picturised on Aamir Khan, the music was composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy.

Sandese Aate Hai…, Border
No one can ever forget this song in a hurry. Sandese Aate Hai got Sonu Nigam his first award in his career. Great lyrics by Javed Akhtar and music by Anu Malik made it one of the most patriotic songs of the decade.

Like Kishore Kumar, Sonu nigam also stepped into acting. His acting career started as a child in films including Betaab (1983). As an adult, he acted in films such as Jaani Dushman: Ek Anokhi Kahani, Kash Aap Hamare Hote, as the male lead opposite Juhi Babbar, and Love in Nepal. None of the films did well at the box office, although his acting was much better appreciated in his last venture. He has not returned to acting since Love in Nepal, but was recently said to be involved in Ankhon Ankhon Mein, a film on a blind singer.

In 2006, Nigam hosted Life Ki Dhun with Sonu Nigaam on Radiocity 91.1 FM, where he had the opportunity to interview musicians, including Lata Mangeshkar.
