Whether it is Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge’s Simran or My Name is Khan’s Mandira, Kajol, unlike other actresses in the industry, has portrayed roles which the common girl can relate to. For this, credit goes to the black-eyed beauty for enacting the roles in such a lively manner that the audiences find it difficult to detach the character from reality.

She is one actress who has carved a niche for herself in the B-Town without stirring any gossip or controversy about her personal life or professional life.

Born in a family replete with filmy background, Kajol just had it in her genes. Being a daughter of Tanuja and late Shomu Mukherjee who was the director and producer and the niece of a legendary actress Nutan, expectations were sky high when she set her feet in Bollywood at the age of seventeen.

Kajol, for starters, made her acting debut with Rahul Rawail's Bekhudi. Even though the film did not shine at the Box-Office, it gifted Bollywood its very own firebrand actress, Kajol, who later went onto become a name that's synonymous with many smash-hit films. While others demand a Numero Uno status, Kajol is (and forever will be) one actress who simply commands it!

Luck shone for the lady in 1993 when she worked in Abbas-Mastan’s ‘Baazigar’ with Shahrukh Khan. She made people sit up and take notice of her. The film also saw the birth of the budding chemistry between Kajol and SRK which later became the best ‘jodi’ Bollywood has ever produced.

From Baazigar to My Name Is Khan

From a dusky beauty of Baazigar to bold and sensuous Mandira of My Name is Khan, Kajol has come a long way. She has always been a trendsetter, on-screen as well as off-screen. At a time when actresses used to swear by their looks and personality Kajol preferred to concentrate more on her character than the looks.

Kajol was famous for her no make-up look off-camera on the sets when she was not shooting. Industry sources say that from the advent of her career, they have seen Kajol sitting in a corner bespectacled with no make-up and totally immersed in her book. Not many would know but Kajol is an avid reader.

After doing a slew of romantic films, Kajol broke the jinx that only male actors can play the role of a villain with Gupt. She did a negative role in the film which went to become a super hit.

At a time when her career was shining at zenith, she took a sabbatical from full-time acting for five years, much to the amazement of everyone, her fans were hugely disappointment.
But she did not let them down and made a remarkable comeback with Kunaal Kohli's Fanaa. She once again

proved that she is just the best.

The government of India honoured her with Padma Shri for her fabulous contribution to Hindi cinema. With her aunt Nutan, Kajol holds the record for winning the maximum number of Filmfare best actress awards.

A family person

A perfect couple, a perfect family, is how we can define Kajol’s personal life. No doubt Kajol and Ajay Devgn are considered as one of the perfect couples in Bollywood. They fell in love and married after dating for a few years. But they have managed to keep gossip mongers at bay.

She once said, “There is no secret at all. It has worked because both of us as we wanted it to work and we have tremendous love plus respect for one another. You need to work on a relationship and that is what we do in our own little ways every single day. The feeling of caring must be there in both the partners and this does not begin or end with those three words ‘I love you.’ It is true that I am possessive about him in the same way that I am possessive about Nysa (daughter). But we also realise that we need to give some space to each other to grow individually, as a married couple and as Nysa’s parents. It is not that we do not have fights or arguments. But these are the things that add spice to a marriage, don’t they?"

Kajol is now a proud mother of two- daughter Nysa and son Yug.

Even though many may deny on the face of it, but the eternal truth remains that Kajol's comeback in Bollywood has been giving sleepless nights' galore to many heroines. Such is the power of Kajol! Wishing this vivacious beauty a very happy birthday from Jagranpost team.
