After winning the Ford Godrej Cinthol contest, Bips was flown to New York where she had a successful modelling career at the age of 17. It is hard to believe that this reigning queen of male fantasy who ranked 8th  in Times 50 most desirable women in 2011was considered ‘ugly’ in her younger years because of her dark complexion. She was bullied and called ‘ugly duckling’ by her classmates.

One of the judges of the Supermodel Contest which Bips won, Vinod Khanna, wanted to launch her alongside his son Akshaye Khanna in Himalay Putra but

Bips felt she was too young and refused it. Another judge Jaya Bachchan convinced Bipasha to do a film named Aakhari Mughal opposite her son Abhishek Bachchan. But unfortunately the film never went on floors. When J P Dutta changed the script of Aakhari Mughaland and made Refugee, he offered a role to Bips opposite to Sunil Shetty which she declined.

Surprising everyone, Bipasha made her debut in Abbas Mustan’s Ajnabee (2001) with a negative character opposite Akshay Kumar. This movie also starred Bobby Deol and Kareena Kapoor. It was reported that during the shooting of Ajnabee newcomer Bips was teased as ‘black cat’ by Kareena for her dusky complexion. However, Bipasha’s performance in a negative role was appreciated by critics and fetched her Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut.

Bipasha Basu received positive reviews for her role. One review in The Tribune noted, " is Bipasha Basu who steals the show with her fine performance.”

Truly like her name Bipasha, means ‘Dark Deep Desire’ she exuded ‘desire’ and lust in Jism (2003) opposite another model turned actor and her ex-beau John Abraham. Jism was a major hit of that year and since then the word sensuality has become synonymous with Bips. She was called a true scorcher for her skin show in Jism.

Her comic sense was appreciated in films like No Entry, All The Best and Phir Hera Pheri. When critics said that Bipasha only capitalizing on her sex appeal and nothing else she gave a brilliant performance as Nishigandha Dasgupta who has no qualms in taking advantage of her sexuality in Madhur Bhandarkar’s Corporate.

Her seductive dance moves in ‘Beedi Jalaile’, in Vishal Bharadwaj’s Omkara(2006) was highly popular in India and overseas. She became the talk of the town for donning a bikini in Aditya Chopra’s Dhoom 2.

Her sizzling chemistry with Saif Ali Khan in Race scorched the screens. In Bachna Ae Haseeno (2008) she was cast opposite Ranbir Kapoor and gave a tough competition a much younger newcomer Deepika Padukone.

Personal life

Bipasha's smoky relationships are the talk of the tinsel town, as she manages to grab the attention of B-Town hottest and eligible bachelors.

Like her professional career Bips has witnessed a lot of ups and downs in personal life. Her first heartbreak came with the ending of 6 years of relationship with Raaz co-star Dino Morea in 2002. Soon afterwards, during the filming of Jism, Bips began to date her co-star John Abraham, and they were in a relationship till 2010.

This super couple of Bollywood who was always been vocal and open about their relationship broke off in 2010. But John clearly told media that he was sole responsible for whatever happened, not Bips. Soon after this break-up without even wasting a year she started dating Dum Maaro Dum co-star Rana Daggubati reportedly. It seems that Bips is going to face another heart-break as Rana is going back steadily with his long tram girlfriend Trisha. But for this hook-ups and break-up we can’t blame this sexy dazzler. Who can’t take his eye off from this girl?

Bipasha is still to meet her soulmate and her quest for her lucky boy continues.
