New Delhi: Will he, won’t he? This must be the question popping up in the mind of John Abraham’s fan as he turns 39 today. A reclusive birthday boy who usually goes underground every year on his birthday only to avoid cutting the cake celebrates his birthday on December 17. But his break-up with long time girlfriend and reported tie-up with a new one has left his fans guessing if this hunk with drooling eyes will do something different this time and go out all the way to party as he turns a year older.

Though 39, age hardly reflects on his six-pack abs, alluring physique, drooling eyes and chiseled face.

His name is still sufficient to set the hearts of thousands of girls racing. And what does John’s heart desire? No, it’s neither Bips nor any girl but bikes, bikes and only bikes. John is a proud owner of the Yamaha R1 1000cc and V-MAX 1700 cc bikes, and often goes out for a ride late at night and has an in-depth, extensive knowledge about the engines. In fact, he is so passionate about bikes that his ex-girlfriend Bipasha Basu didn’t like riding pillion with him as she was jealous of his love for two-wheelers.

Undoubtedly, the combination of John riding a racy bike can give an adrenaline rush to any girl. But did you know that this 39-year-old most sought after model-turned-actor was once a shy guy. During a chat show he admitted that was very shy as a school boy and would never look at girls eye-to-eye because of his pimples.

"I used to be very shy...there was a time when my face was full of pimples and I never used to look up when in the company of girls so much so that they used to feel that I was such a shy, sweet, decent boy. Only I couldn't tell them that my face is full of pimples and that is the only reason I'm looking down," John said.

Hard to believe but it’s true that he was very shy in school and all the girls he has a crush on liked someone else. But as he himself says, “…now that’s changed a bit.”

Born to a Malayali father and a Parsi mother, John was born and brought up in Mumbai. Abraham's Parsi name is Farhan while his father being a Syrian Christian named him John.

He grew up with a dream of becoming a soccer star during his Bombay Scottish School days and modelling was never in his mind. After completing high school and MBA from Mumbai Educational Trust (MET) he started his career as a media planner with an agency and some ad shoots here and there.

He joined the media firm Time & Space Media Entertainment Promotions Ltd., which, however, closed because of financial problems. Later, he worked for Enterprises-Nexus as a media planner. He was signed by Carrie Models in Singapore and did some modelling there; he later modelled in Hong Kong, London and New York City.

He created much waves in the industry with his first advertisement shoots and other modelling assignments.

John featured in advertisements and music videos like "Surma" by Punjabi singer Jazzy B and Chupke Chupke by Pankaj Udhaas.

Winning the Gladrags Manhunt in March 1999, he became prominent in the modelling industry and became the highest paid model by year 2002.

After creating a niche in modelling, Bollywood came as no surprise. Abraham joined the Kishore Namit Kapoor acting laboratory and completed an acting course while juggling modelling assignments. His made his film debut in 2003 with ‘Jism’ which forced people to sit and take notice of his looks as well as acting skills. He even got a Filmfare nomination for Best Male debut for this film.

But his superb Bollywood take-off suffered strong jolts when he was termed expressionless by his critics and tagged as stone-faced actor. But little did his critics acknowledge his attempts to try his hand at all types of roles whether be it comedy, action, drama, rom-com or off-beat films. However, his international movie ‘Water’ opposite Lisa Ray was able to sew the mouths of his critics for sometime.

The macho man of Bollywood who never ceases to amaze his fans with his great body and acting skills does not endorse any alcohol and cigarette brands. He is also associated with PETA, Habitat for humanity and other NGOs. He is a complete vegetarian.

From playing a passionate lover in Jism to portraying the role of a villain in Dhoom, from tickling the funny bones of his fans in Garam Masala and Dostana to luring action-lovers by lifting a 150-kg bike in Force, John has come a long way now.

Rated as the sexiest Asian in the year 2008, he scaled the oomph factor when he got his bum insured for Rs 10 crore post release of Dostana where he gave a sneak peak of his bottoms. But ladies could not stop asking for more!!!

A gentleman in the true sense, John is every Indian girl’s dream man. On this special day today, we take the opportunity to wish John Abraham a very happy Birthday from Jagranpost team and many more successful ventures in coming years.
