Javed Akhtar received the coveted Sahitya Akademi award for his immense contribution to Urdu poetry. Not only this, the eminent writer-lyricist was also awarded the Padma Shri in 1999 and the Padma Bhushan in 2007. He is one of the very few people in the tinsel town who has been successful in several fields of work, including script writing, lyrics, and poetry.

The widely acclaimed screenwriter turned lyricist with the movie ‘Duniya’ in 1984. His simple, touching and soulful lyrics began a new trend in Bollywood and transformed the value of words in songs.

Some of the memorable songs written by Javed Akhtar include tum ho to gata hai dil from Rock On!!, Dard-e-disco from Om Shati Om, title track of Kal Ho Na Ho, Radha kaise na jale from Lagaan, Sandese aaye hain from Border, Panchi nadiya from Refugee and many others.
