This is part of the activities being taken up by the Health Ministry along with the World Health Organisation (WHO) to mark the ‘World No Tobacco Day’ to draw attention to the health risks associated with tobacco use.

Globally, every year, 31st May is observed as World No Tobacco Day.

Each year, the World Health Organisation selects a theme for the World No Tobacco Day to engage a world of inspirational thought to convey its deeply humanitarian message.

The theme for this year is ‘Raise taxes on tobacco to reduce tobacco consumption’.

First stipulated in the year 1987, the World No Tobacco Day was an initiative of all the member states of the WHO following the Resolution WHA42.
