Chandigarh: After the fierce protests in Jaitapur, it is the turn of Fatehabad district where farmers have upped the ante against land acquisition for establishing a nuclear plant.

The farmers on Monday gathered in front of mini secretariat and held a mahapanchayat to oppose land acquisition. It should be noted that the farmers have been sitting on dharna here for the past 346 days.

Many political parties were also present in the mahapanchayat and assured the farmers of their support. After reaching a joint decision, a delegation of the farmers led by Ashok Meena handed over a memorandum to the Chief Minister.

Head of Kisan Sangharsh Samiti, Gorakhpur, said the farmers were ready to fight with the administration if they sought for forceful acquisition of land.

Meanwhile, the state government on Monday had issued a notification under Section 6 of Land Acquisition Act.

Notably, the state government on July 22 had decided that areas where Section 4 of the Act was imposed, Section – 6 will not be announced but power projects were kept out of this decision.

Around 1400-acre land is being acquired in Gorakhpur, Kajalheri and Badopal villages in Fatehabad district for nuclear power plant.

In October 2009, the Central government had given nod to the Fatehabad Nuclear Power House in which 50 tonnes of Uranium will be used every year.
