Jhajjar: After being termed illegal by the Supreme Court, various Khap panchayats of Haryana have clubbed hands and urged the Apex Court to give them a hearing. Representatives of Khap panchayats, who attended a meeting held at Jaat Dharamshala on Thursday, categorically said they have never promoted honour killing.

The meeting headed by Kishanchand Solanki was attended by Khap representatives of Rohtak, Sonipat, Bhiwani, Gurgaon, Jhajjar and Delhi.

In the meeting, head of Haryana Dhankad Sabha, Dr. Om Prakash Dhankar said, “Khaps have never promoted honour killings, and they have always been dedicated to the cause of controlling social evils.” The Apex Court decision to declare Khap Panchayat as illegal and term them as barbaric was discussed in the meet.

All the representatives in the meeting passed the proposal unanimously to put their issue in Lokpal Bill. The Khap representatives opined that the Supreme Court should provide them an opportunity to raise their point.

Meanwhile, disappointed over the Supreme Court remarks about Khap Panchayats as illegal, Khaps have requested the Apex Court to let them be heard.

One of the Khap representatives, Ranvir Rathi said, “Khap Panchayat was constituted during the period of King Harsha Vardhan and were known for candid and unbiased justice.”
