New Delhi: Haryana is witnessing higher number of cases of atrocity against women these days with 11 rape cases erupting in past few days. Recently, a 16-year-old Dalit girl committed suicide after she was allegedly raped in Jind district.

Some insane people say that the incidents happen due to exposures by girls and objectionable contents on TV channels. But if we have a look at the tradition of Haryana, majority of female members in the state adorn veil. Despite, incidents occur regularly.

Recently, most of the rape incidents were reported from Jind, Hisar, Karnal, Bhiwani, Rohtak and Faridabad. The victims include both minors and elderly women.

Chronology of rape cases in Haryana

A 13-year old girl was raped by her neighbour in Rohtak, home town of Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda.

A 19-year old newly married girl was raped by four men in Gohana near Sonipat.

15-year old mentally challenged Dalit girl was raped in Gohana town.

A 30-year old married woman was raped inside her house in Jind at gun point and her MMS clip was made.

A teenage girl was raped in a moving vehicle in Bhiwani district.

It becomes clear from the above mentioned data that the female sex ratio and poor education system might be the main reasons behind the higher number of rape cases in the state.

Bring down marriageable age: Khap Panchayat

Khap Panchayats have said that rape cases have increased in Haryana due to vulgarity shown on TV channels. Now, they asked the government to bring down marriageable age limit to curb rape cases.

Khap Panchayats also said that drastic change in youth’s eating habits has also affected their physique. They are getting sexually active at early stages.
