New Delhi: Puducherry Lt Governor Iqbal Singh, whose alleged links with Tax evader Hasan Ali are under scanner, is likely to resign next week, as the Enforcement Directorate (ED) investigating the Ali case, cannot question him unless he quits.

The Constitution forbids any investigating agency to question a designated person in the capacity of Lt Governor till he submits his resignation.

Hasan Ali is facing ED summons for hiding Rs 35,000 crore black money of politicians and bureaucrats in foreign bank accounts.

The ED, waiting for Iqbal’s resignation, has still not issued him any notice.

According to sources, Puducherry Lt Governor has no other option but to resign and face ED investigation.

ED has strong evidence against Singh, who is alleged to have helped the Pune stud farm owner Khan’s wife and her accomplice Kashinath Tapuria in getting passports.

Iqbal Singh had written to Home Minister P Chidambaram last week and admitted that he had recommended for issuance of the passport to Hasan Ali.

However, Iqbal claimed that he did not know him and also mentioned that he had made the recommendation for Khan at the behest of a Bihar Congress leader Amlendu Kumar Pandey.
