Ranchi: The BJP on Friday attributed to low 37.92 percent turnout of electorate as one of the reasons for its candidate Ramji Lal Sharda’s drubbing in the Hatia assembly by-poll.

“The poor turnout of votes in urban areas has affected our candidate’s performance....we will review our defeat and work hard to get better results in future,” the party’s state unit President Dineshanand Goswami said in his statement here.

He, however, stated that the result was unexpected as the party workers had been dedicated enough in their campaigning in the run up to the June 12 bypoll.

The Hatia debacle comes in the background of the BJP losing the Jamshedpur Lok Sabha seat last year and senior party leader S S Ahluwalia being defeated in the May 3 Rajya Sabha elections.
