New Delhi: The 64th Independence Day is likely to witness a confrontation between the political class of the country and Anna Hazare as the latter has chosen the auspicious occasion to present his views on his proposed August 16 fast against the official draft of Lokpal Bill.

While Prime Minister Manmohan Singh would address the nation from the ramparts of the Red Fort on Monday morning, Anna Hazare has decided to address the nation explaining the reason behind his movement against corruption later in the evening.

People’s response to the development would give an idea of the moos of people on the issue of Lokpal.

The proposed Anna agitation has irked Congress leaders. Slamming Anna for his decision to address the country on August 15, a senior Congress leader questioned whether he (Anna) considers himself above the Prime Minister and President of the country.

However, Anna has argued that since he is going to launch his anti-graft agitation from August 16, he wants to explain the reasons behind it on the Independence Day.

Manish Sisodia, a close associate of Anna said, “He has no ulterior motive and he is not confronting the authority of the Prime Minister. That is why he has decided to address the public at 7 pm.”

Anna is likely to focus on the Lokpal, while the Prime Minister would inform the country about the steps being taken to check corruption.
