Jabalpur: Madhya Pradesh High Court on Wednesday commuted to life imprisonment the death sentence awarded to three persons by a district court for murdering a youth in 2009.

A bench of Justice Rakesh Saxena and Justice T K Kaushal commuted the capital punishment awarded by a district court to Rahul Rajak, Ashok Vishwakarma and Satish Pachouri to life imprisonment.

The Narshingpur court on May 5, 2009 sentenced the trio to death for killing one Pankaj Singh in Bhedaghat of Jabalpur district.

According to prosecution, the trio with the help of a woman, identified only as Dolly, had asked the victim to come at Bhedaghat area and later killed him. They later demanded a ransom of Rs 80 lakh from his family members.

Dolly later became a government approver while three others were awarded capital punishment by the district court. The trio had challenged the order in the high court.
