Justice J B Pardiwala passed the order on the petition of SBI Chairperson Arundhati Bhattacharya and managing director B Sriram seeking to quash legal proceedings initiated by Vadodara district court against them for 'sedition'.

The district court had issued summons to them on the complaint filed by businessman Vasudev Thakkar.

Thakkar said he had deposited a cheque of Rs 14,482.52 in an SBI branch. However, the amount of 52 paise was not credited by the bank.

He lodged a complaint before Vadodara police last year under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 124 (sedition) and 188 (disobedience to order promulgated by public servant).

While quashing the complaint, the court said the complainant may approach the Reserve Bank of India.
