Chandigarh: Punjab and Haryana High Court has ordered on Monday to complete the probe into former cabinet minister Avatar Henry’s nationality in a month. Although, Punjab government had sought six months additional time to complete the inquiry but bench comprising acting Chief Justice M M Kumar and Justice Alok Singh has given only a month’s time. Bench has said that the matter is related to nationality so government should take the investigation seriously.

While filing a petition in High Court, Ajay Sehgal of Jalandhar has said that Avatar Henry, who has been a four-time MLA and two-times a minister in the Punjab government, is not even a citizen of India. Henry had willingly acquired the nationality of United Kingdom in 1968. On 1st May, 1968 he got the British passport and visited the country with the same passport. Petitioner also claimed that Henry’s original name is Avatar Singh Sangheda. The former minister says that his father’s name is Lakhbir Singh but in the British passport,  his father’s name has been mentioned as Jogindra Singh.
