Reacting to the barrage of criticism leveled against union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Resources Farooq Abdullah over an alleged sexist comment against women, Omar Abdullah said on his micro blogging twitter site on Friday: "I am sure the attempt wasn't to trivialize important issue of women's security, so I hope dad apologises for the misplaced attempt at humour".

Farooq Abdullah reportedly said he was afraid of even speaking to women these days for fear of going to jail.

Responding to Omar Abduallah's remarks, many bloggers on the site said the father's remarks were indeed sexist, and the son could not brush away such comments.
