New Delhi: The plans to set up AIIMS like super-specialty hospital at Raebareli in Uttar Pradesh under Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Seva Yojna would not have held in abeyance for three years, if the objections raised by the Union Health Ministry and Finance Ministry officials were taken into consideration.

The Union Health Ministry officials had raised questions on the selection of Raebareli – the constituency of Sonia Gandhi - as the spot for construction of super specialty hospital, but the political clout suppressed the issue. Similarly, questions were raised on the proposal after it was sent to the Expenditure Finance Committee, Ministry of Finance.

The information has come to light after Dainik Jagran filed an RTI seeking the information about the hospital.

The investigation reveals that Ministry officials were aware of the existing tussle between Sonia Gandhi and Mayawati. On September 17, 2008, the file sent to additional secretary of the Health Ministry clearly stated that the place has to be decided before it is sent to Ministry of Finance.  Also, reasons for choosing Raebareli should be mentioned. Ironically, there was no reply on it.

On Monday, Dainik Jagran had revealed that the plans to establish AIIMS like hospital in Uttar Pradesh have been lying in abeyance from 2008.
