Lucknow: The mercury level continued to remain above normal in most parts of Uttar Pradesh with heat wave conditions prevailing in some areas of the state where Etawah recorded the highest temperature of 43.8 degree Celsius, the Met office said.

The temperature remained variably high at Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Faizabad, Allahabad, Kanpur, Lucknow, Moradabad, Jhansi, Agra, Bareilly and Meerut divisions, the office said.

Some areas in eastern parts of the state, however, received light to moderate showers since on Monday, they said.

Meanwhile, the South-west monsoon is likely to enter the state in the next few days with conditions favouring its further advancement, the Met said.
