Dehradun: The Gangotri National Highway remained closed for the 17th consecutive day on Tuesday. Massive landslides, triggered by torrent rainfall, have blocked the national highway leaving thousands of pilgrims and tourists stranded.

Due to fresh landslides at Sukki and Nalupani on Tuesday morning, mounds of landslide rubbles got collected blocking the Gangotri route.

Though the Nalupani route was cleared by evening, Sukki remained closed.

Similarly, Yamunotri Highway was cut off due to landslides at Naugaon Khadda. The route was opened in the evening but frequent landslides on another patch of the Yamunotri route once again blocked the highway.

Besides, the Rishikesh-Badrinath National Highway was opened after three days on Tuesday afternoon at 3 pm. On Saturday, landslides between Rudraprayag and Srinagar blocked the highway.

Frequent landslide in the Uttarkashi has crippled life in the region, including food crisis.
