At least seven people were killed as heavy rains lashed Hyderabad on Wednesday morning, officials said.

Also, Army Chief General Dalbir Singh was stuck in traffic for an hour. Heavy rains on Wednesday morning caused waterlogging in many areas and massive traffic gridlocks in the national capital, stranding people on the roads. Traffic helpline officials told reporters that they were flooded with calls of snarls and waterlogging across the city.

"Reports of heavy traffic congestion and vehicles being stuck on roads are coming from different parts of the city since morning. We have till now received more than 100 calls of traffic jams and waterlogging," an official of the traffic helpline said.

Places hit by massive traffic congestion due to waterlogging include Moti Bagh, Wazirabad, Pragati Maidan, Azad Market, the stretch between IIT-Delhi and Munirka, Chirag Dilli, Punjabi Bagh, Karol Bagh, Dwarka, Shastri Park, Seelampur, Ghazipur, Najafgarh, the Nangloi-Mundka road, the Dhaula Kuan flyover, Greater Kailash II market, Dr. Zakir Hussain Marg, Barapullah flyover towards DND, Ashram Chowk, Ring Road Maharani Bagh, Lajpat Nagar and Sarai Kale Khan.

Following water-logging in several parts of the city similar to what happened on July 28, many places including Hero Honda Chowk, Sohna Road, Manesar, Udyog Vihar, old Gurgaon Road and a few areas in New Gurgaon experienced heavy traffic snarls on Wednesday. People going office from Delhi to Gurgaon reported that traffic was not moving an inch.

The Delhi police have issued an advisory to the commuters to be careful while on the roads since the visibility is very low. Many motorists have abandoned their vehicles and are wading through knee-deep water which has accumulated on both the carriageways of Delhi-Gurgaon road.

US Secretary of State John Kerry, who was interacting with students at IIT-Delhi, has mocked traffic woes in the city as he asked students, "Have you (students)come here in boats,?"

Meanwhile, American Embassy sources informed that US Secretary of State's visit to three religious sites in Delhi cancelled due to heavy rains. Also, his event at IIT-Delhi got delayed by an hour due to heavy rains in the capital.

Also, 2 people were critically injured after a part of building collapsed due to heavy rains in Bholakpur area of Musheerabad, Hyderabad.

Gurugram Gears Up For Another 'Gurujam' As Heavy Rains Lash Millennium City

Following the heavy rains in Hyderabad, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation commissioner Janardhan Reddy appealed that not to travel for one hour in the city. He is also expected to meet with chief secretary to review the situation in the city.

 

Also, Heavy rains lashed Lucknow and some parts of eastern Uttar Pradesh and Hyderabad. The rains brought down temperature and ended a brief spell of hot and humid weather over the last one week. Officials of the regional Met department said the rains would continue through out the day. Due to the rains that started around 4 in the morning and continued for almost three hours, severe water logging has also been reported from the old city and many low lying areas. At many places the choked drains overflowed on to the roads, leading to problems for school going children and their parents.
