New Delhi: Expressing profound grief over the death of 23-year-old gang rape victim, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj on Monday said that speedy justice must be meted out in this case.

Swaraj, during the BJP condolence meet, said her (victim) only crime was that she born as a girl in India. “What was her fault? What crime did she commit? For what did she get punished? After analysing, I find that her only crime was that her body was that of a girl. She was born as a girl so she became the prey to the beast," Swaraj said.

The leader alleged that the criminals in the national capital move around fearless and they have no fear of the Delhi Police. "She (victim) came to a city where the criminals are not afraid of the police. This is not one incident; such incidents keep on happening almost every day.”

Swaraj further said the girl is no more, but she has wakened the nation’s soul. Swaraj also lashed out at the Congress-led UPA Government for cremating the victim''s body early on Sunday morning.

The victim, a physiotherapy student, was gang-raped and brutally assaulted by six men in a moving bus in south Delhi on December 16 night. She died on Saturday morning at Mt Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore. The body of the 23-year-old girl was cremated on Sunday morning.
