Agartala: Security forces seized heroin worth Rs one crore and arrested five persons, including three Tripura State Rifles jawans, in South Tripura district, police said on Friday.

Acting on a tip-off, Assam Rifles detained three persons, including a TSR jawan and a school teacher, from Thalcherra tribal hamlet near Amarpur town on Thursday and seized the heroin from them. The three were later handed over to police.

Based on the information provided by the arrested, two more TSR jawans were arrested, police said.

Police said heroin were smuggled from Thailand via Myanmar and neighbouring Chittagong hill tract of Bangladesh.

The arrested persons were on Friday produced before the court of Sub-divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) of Amarpur who remanded them in five-day police custody.
