Shimla: The Himachal Pradesh High Court on Tuesday slammed the state government for not releasing fund for the proposed project of installation of CCTV cameras in the crowded places in the state capital.

Taking into account the affidavit filed by the municipal corporation, the division bench of Justice Deepak Gupta and Justice Surendra Singh asked the state Home Secretary, District Magistrate and Municipal Corporation Commissioner to inform the court about the revenue generated from Summer Festival and Shimla Road User and Pedestrian Act 2007.

The installation of CCTV cameras will put a check on incidents like Delhi HC blasts and other illegal movements of miscreants, the court said

Hearing another petition filed by Neelam Sharma about the illegal encroachment of pedestrian areas by the shopkeepers, the division bench has ordered the shopkeepers to use the area only till October 31.

The expansion must not create trouble for the passer-bys, the court said.

The court has also asked the shopkeepers to restrict hawkers from sitting outside their shops.

The case will be heard next on November 1.
