New Delhi: Taking suo motu cognisance of Patiala rape-suicide case, the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Friday issued a notice to the Inspector General of Police over the incident.

The court asked the Patiala police that why an FIR was not registered in this case on time and what action has been taken so far. The Police have been asked to reply by January 8, 2013.

Earlier the teenager, who was allegedly raped by two persons, committed suicide on Thursday as police denied to take action against the accused. Following the suicide of the victim, one policeman was sacked and another was suspended.

Police found a suicide note from the victim’s house in which she said that she was ending her life as police were not registering a case. She also accused the police of causing a lot of humiliation to her when she tried to get a case registered against the culprits.

Acting swiftly after that, SHO Gurcharan Singh was on Thursday dismissed from service while Assistant Sub-Inspector Nasic Singh was suspended.

Police sources said Gurcharan used to ask the victim embarrassing questions relating to the alleged rape every time on her several visits to the police station.
