Guwahati: In a shocking development, a high intensity blast ripped through an Army convoy in Goalpara district of violence hit Assam on Tuesday killing one Jawan and leaving six others injured.

The attack happened as Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram was visiting the nearby Dhubri district.

The crisis hit Assam has been in the news following the deadly ethnic violence in Bodoland Territorial Autonomous districts including Kokrajhar which left 56 people dead and 61 others injured, besides rendering lakhs homeless.

Meanwhile, the anti-talk faction of ULFA has claimed responsibility for the blast.

In an email statement, assistant information and publicity secretary of the outfit Arunuday Asom said the blast was carried out by its members.

Asom also claimed that three Army personnel were killed and nine others injured in the attack.

However, there has been no confirmation regarding this figure from the Army.
