New Delhi: The Aviation Ministry has decided to set up a high level inquiry committee to probe the blackout for five hours at the IGI Airport Terminal-3.

The Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) has also decided to constitute a technical committee in order to find the reason of the outage. The report is expected to be submitted within a week.

Meanwhile, an independent technical auditor was also appointed on Monday to check the arrangements for sufficient power supply to the airport.

However, the preliminary investigations reveal that the power cut occurred due to fault in the wire box.

Around 100 flights were affected and five cancelled due to the power cut at the Terminal -3. The outage resulted in a complete blackout for a little over four hours. Airline staff had to check in passengers manually, since the automated baggage handling systems were affected.

“Preliminary investigations indicate that the transformer tripped due to a fault in the wire box. We have ordered an inquiry into the matter,” said DIAL spokesperson.

CEO DIAL Prabhakar Rao said that passenger comfort was company’s top priority.
