Lucknow: Home to several notorious mafias, besmirched politicians, dreaded bandits and terrorists, various jails of Uttar Pradesh despite being highly sensitive lack the required security arrangements.

The death of Deputy CMO Dr Y S Sachan in Lucknow jail further establishes the fact, as the doctor reportedly went missing for more than five hours but the jail authorities were not even aware of it.

If such is the condition of the jail in capital of Uttar Pradesh, then one can well understand the security arrangements in the remaining jails of the state, where around 35 dreaded terrorists are currently lodged.

The Jail authorities have failed to curb the malicious activities of Munna Bajrangi who had allegedly murdered BJP legislator Krishnanad Rai. Even after shifting Bajrangi from one jail to the other, UP police could not check his criminal activities.

Although former MLA Dr Udhyavan Singh is lodged in the Mirchipur jail, his terror continues to loom large on people. It was only because of his involvement in criminal activities, his rival gangs attacked him inside the court premises.

Despite the tall claims of jail authorities regarding the use of sophisticated devices like CCTV camera and video conferencing, there are several examples of the breach of security system.

Inspector General (ADG) VK Gupta said, “The jails of the state have required security arrangements and 3,000 additional Home Guards have been given to various jail to keep a check on criminal activities.”
