Shimla: Hearing the petition filed by farmers for getting compensation against uprooting of their plants, the Himachal Pradesh High Court on Friday upheld the decision of District Court Bilashpur.

As per the District Court verdict, Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) was ordered to pay five times more amount with nine percent interest against the price fixed by Land Acquisition Officer for uprooting the plants having fruits. The BBMB had uprooted the plants for laying high tension power line from Bilaspur to Bhiwani (Haryana).

The HC bench comprising Chief Justice Kurian Joseph and Justice Surjit Singh pronounced the order while hearing 34 petitions together.

The bench made it clear that the District Court order is based on all the records presented before it. There is no room to make any change in the District Court order, the bench said.

It is worth mentioning that several farmers lost their aadu, guava, litchi, galgal, mango, lemon and orange plants during the lying of power line. They had sought the compensation for it.
