Amritsar: In what can be seen as the insensitivity and apathy of BJP government in Himachal Pradesh towards children, the land meant for kids to spend vacations in the state, was gifted to yoga guru Baba Ramdev.

The relationship of Ramdev with the BJP and Sangh Parivar has been a centre of controversy, especially in the wake of the yoga guru’s protest against the Central government over black money.

The BJP government in the state has transferred the ownership of land worth Rs 34 crore to Ramdev for merely Rs 99. The possession of the land has been transferred for 99 years.

The land, on which ‘Indira Holiday Home’ is operational, was in 1956 given in charity to Himachal government by Maharaja of Patiala, Yadvinder Singh.

Brining the incident into the light, Punjab Congress president Captain Amrinder Singh on Wednesday said, “My father had donated 28 acre of land in Sadhepur village of Solan district to the state government in 1956. Since many children from Punjab used to visit the hill state, a holiday home for kids was set up on that piece of land.”

The then Chief Minister Pratap Singh had expressed gratitude for my father’s gesture, he said, adding: “It was unfortunate that Himachal government has handed this land to Ramdev for just Rs 99, without giving a second thought to the fate of children visiting the hill station.”

According to Capt Amrinder, the current market rate of the land stands at Rs 34 crore. Terming BJP’s favour on Ramdev as an act of corruption, he said, “Both Bharatiya Janata Party and Baba Ramdev are corrupt.”

He claimed to be writing to Himachal Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal seeking explanation over the issue and if required, will approach the court.
