Chamba: Even the toughest ones need a break and keeping the fact in mind the Himachal Pradesh government has decided to grant a weekly off to the Special Protection Officers deployed on the border areas of the state.

Addressing a public rally in Chamba on Sunday, Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal announced to provide an advance of Rs 2,000 per annum to each SPO during the training and weapons maintenance period.

Dhumal informed that around 470 SPOs have been deployed on the border area of the state for protecting frontiers besides checking the inflow of anti-social and anti-national elements into the state.

The CM said the Centre on frequent basis has raised the price of petro products, which has adversely affected the common people. “On our end, the state government has lowered the Value Added Tax (VAT) by 14 percent to control the petro rates in HP,” he added.

The state government has increased the subsidy to Rs 166 crore for domestic power consumers. It is also spending Rs 150 crore providing essential goods to people.
