Shimla: The Himachal Pradesh High Court has asked all district magistrates to bring to its notice the entire list of religious places in the state where animal sacrifices are still being practised.

An order was issued by Chief Justice Kurian Joseph and Justice Surendra Singh in this regard while hearing the plea of priest Ramesh Sharma of Mata Kamakshi Devi temple of Mandi district. The petitioner had requested SDM of Karsog to clamp a ban order on animal slaughter. The order was subsequently issued to stop the practice of sacrificing buffaloes in Mata Kamakshi temple during Navratra festival.

The petitioner stated that animal sacrifice has been prevalent in the state. He has given an example of International Kullu Dussehra, where huge numbers of animals are still sacrificed. Taking the issue seriously, the court has also asked the Animal Welfare Board to inform the court in this regard.
