Shimla: Himachal Pradesh High Court has taken cognizance of a petition filed in collapse of 83-year-old railway bridge over river Chakki and made the Senior Division Security Commandant, Northern Railway, Ferozepur a defendant. The court had held the Railway administration responsible for the mishap.

The court has ordered the Security Commandant to ask Chief Commissioner, Public Works Department, National Highway, Shimla and Executive Commissioner, Jogindernagar to appear in the court on December 28.

Also, Deputy Commissioner Pathankot, Deputy Commissioner Kangra, Mining Officer Pathankot and Mining Officer Kangra have also been summoned to appear in the court on that day.

The HC has ordered Deputy Commissioner, Pathankot to inform through an affidavit about the possible initiative taken in this regard.

For the record, the bridge joining the Pathankot-Jogindernagar railway line had collapsed due to floods caused by the heavy rains in August 2011. The main reason for the mishap is considered to be the uncontrolled mining activities carried out in the region.
