Shimla: Chief Election Commissioner V S Sampath who is currently touring the state to take stock of the situation said that by-polls in Himachal would be conducted simultaneously with Gujrat elections and it would be conducted in two phases.

On this occasion, Election Commission also held meetings with representatives of four political parties of the state and also knew their views. During the meeting he said that commission would keep a close look on various decisions and announcements made by the ruling Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) government.

Representatives of political parties said that Election Commission should announce the poll schedule keeping the festivals and snowfall in tribal areas of the state in view.

Representatives of few political parties attending the meeting said that ballet papers have not been prepared completely while other political parties accused the ruling government of deputing favorite officials which is sure to impact poll outcome.

Election Commission is also keeping an eye on the poll sops like announcement of carving of new districts. As per the EC sources, detailed information about voter lists has been put on the website of the state’s Election Commission. Any political party can register its objections one week before the polls.

The Chief Election Commissioner said that DGP and Chief Secretary of the state have been asked to transfer those officials of the state who are posted at one place for the last three years as whose continuity in office may impact the poll outcome.

All officials of the state have been directed to provide adequate communication facilities at all polling booths. Electorates would be provided voter slips which would contain their photographs also. People would be able to cast their votes only after showing them to the concerned officials at the polling booths.

Sampath said that Dussehra festival falls in the month of October while Kullu Dussehra would take place next month and it would be followed by many festivals. Taking all these things into consideration Election Commission would look at all the probabilities. Also a close look would be kept on paid news items. Income –tax Commissioner has been asked to look into such cases but he clarified that scribes would not be harassed for publishing such news items.
