Shimla: Cultural programmes were held across Himachal Pradesh as the state celebrates its 65th foundation day on Monday.
Himachal came into existence on this day in 1948, with the merger of 31 erstwhile princely states and Punjab hill areas were merged into it on November 1, 1966 and it attained statehood on January 25, 1971.

"The state has made spectacular progress in past 64 years," Chief Minister P K Dhumal Dhumal said at a function in Bilaspur district.
He said from being the 'Apple state', Himachal is all set to become the 'Fruit Bowl' of the country.  Meanwhile, the Chief Minister announced enhancement of cash prize of Parshuram Awardees from Rs 20,000 to Rs 50,000 and also declared Rs 10 lakh cash award for Priyanka, a member of the Indian Kabaddi team which recently won the World Kabbadi Championship.
