Shimla: The Central Government on Tuesday presented five National Awards to Himachal Pradesh for its outstanding performance in strengthening and developing the Panchayati Raj Institutions in the state.

Union Rural Development minister Jai Ram Ramesh and Union minister of Panchayati Raj and Tribal Development V Kishore Chandra Deo presented awards to five Panchayati Raj Institutions during a national conference to celebrate the National Panchayati Raj Day function in New Delhi, an official release here said.

Hari Chand Sharma, Zila Parishad Kullu president, Usha Bharti president Block Samiti Nirmand district Kullu and Meena Kumari President panchayat Samiti Salooni district Chamba were presented awards worth Rs 25 lakh, Rs 15 lakh and Rs 15 lakh, respectively.

Dinesh Thakur of Gram Panchayat Barog district Shimla and Prem Thakur, President Gram Panchayat Chamyana district Shimla were awarded Rs four lakh each, the release added.
