Dehradun: At a time when global warming has become a major cause of worry all across the globe, the findings of scientists of Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology are bound to come as welcome news to Indians. According to the scientists though there has been an increase in temperature of the Himalayan range in the past 100 years, it is nowhere near the rise in temperature witnessed in the mountainous region around 700 years back.

From 19th century till date the temperature of the earth has increased by 0.6 degree Celsius. According to the study, the temperature of the Himalayan regions has also increased. Following the trend in temperature rise, the scientists all across the world have expressed their concern over it.

However, if the study made by the Uttarakhand based geology institute is taken into consideration, the temperature of the Himalayan region was much higher than the average during the year 900 to1300 AD.

According to the scientists, from 9th to 13th century, the temperature was 0.3 degrees Celsius higher than the existing global temperature. “700 years back the temperature of the Himalayan region was much less than the global temperature. Therefore, the escalation of 0.6 degree Celsius might be a troubling situation in other countries, but not for Himalayas” said one of the scientists of Wadia Institute, Dr Jayendra Singh.
