Lucknow (JPN/Bureau): Hindu weavers will not get the benefit of being on the Scheduled Castes (SC) list anymore. Government orders that gave weavers the benefit of Scheduled Castes reservation have been terminated in the state.

Earlier, the state government had recognised Hindu weavers under the Kori community. But after the misuse of SC benefits came to light, the orders were cancelled.

However, the Kori community will keep enjoying SC status.

Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) has objected to this decision and said they will raise the issue in the Assembly. Its leaders said that the state government wanted to bestow all facilities to a particular caste for its own gains.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Lalji Verma clarified that there were no changes in the rules but if people from general category change their caste to avail benefits, then this won’t be tolerated.

RLD state president Hardev Singh alleged that the BSP government took this decision as it wanted to help one particular community. President Ajit Singh said the party will launch an agitation against the government’s move.
