London: Hollywood actress Charlize Theron is campaigning for gay marriages to be made legal across the US, but does not want to wed herself.

The 35-year-old Oscar winner who split from long term partner Stuart Townsend last year enjoys being in a secure, long term relationship but personally sees no reason to have a marriage ceremony for herself, according to reports.

"I really want for myself a long-term relationship. And I have been in long-term relationships. That's the kind of union that I want. The actual ceremony is not something that is important to me but I see the importance for other people," Theron said.

The 'Monster' actress is pleased about a vote in New York which allows same sex couples to marry, she's doesn't believe the US government is doing enough, as it is still banned in most states.

"It (marriage) is a divine right and when government starts to tell us who can love and what is good love, I do have a problem with that. I have a problem with the fact that our government hasn't stepped up enough to make this federal, to make this legal," she said.
