During the ongoing month of Ramazan, buyers in huge numbers can be seen thronging the markets. Shopkeepers have stocked varieties of dates from India and expensive varieties from Arabian countries in their shops.

Despite some of the varieties being heavily priced, it does not deter the buyers from purchasing even the costliest dates on display.

Mohammad Shafi, dates seller, said that the month of Ramazan spurs the sale of fruit which are mandatorily consumed by devout Muslims while breaking their dawn to dusk fast. He further said that it also boost the profits.

Ashiq Ahmad, a buyer stated, “Dates are very popular in Kashmir during the month of Ramazan. The demand of dates also increases during this period. To meet the customers’ demand, traders import dates especially from Arab countries.”
