New Delhi: Terming the case as rarest of the rare, Additional Sessions Judge of Tis Hazari court Bimla Kumari pronounced death sentence to five members of a family in honour killing case.

Citing the Supreme Court’s order in the case, the Delhi court stated that there was nothing less than death penalty in this case of honour killing.

It should be learnt that a Shia Muslim girl Rubina had married Sadiq, a Sunni Muslim boy against the wishes of her family.
On July 7, 2008, Rubina’s brother Ali forcibly took Sadiq from his family’s home in old Delhi to a mosque, where the other four accused were waiting.

An altercation took place and Sadiq’s brothers Tariq and Tayyab, who had followed Ali, joined them. The accused shot both of them. While Tariq died, Tayyab, though critically injured, survived.

The girl’s brothers Sajid Wasim and Shabbir Kasim, her uncles Mohammed Saleem, Shaheen Zargam Ali and cousin Shaheen Abbas were convicted for the murder of Tariq, the brother of her husband Sadiq.

The court convicted them under Section 302 (murder), 34 (common intention) and pronounced death sentence.
