Ludhiana: In a suspected case of honour killing, a 23-year-old youth was allegedly beaten to death by the brother of an upper caste girl, whom he wished to marry against the wishes of her family.

Last evening Sukhwant was attacked by Kuldeep Singh, his friends Kulveer Singh, Nonni and two other unidentified persons on the outskirt of Jodhan village in this district, police said.

Surjinder Singh, the deceased's elder brother informed police that Sukhwant had an affair with Amardeep Kaur, who belongs to the upper caste (Sikh Jat) of Dullo Village.

They were meeting regularly and planning to marry, he said.

Sukhwant, who was working as a carpenter, succumbed to multiple injuries here this morning.

A case has been registered against Balwinder Singh, girl's father, Kuldeep, Kulveer, Nonni and two unidentified accomplices under section 302 IPC, SHO, Police station Jodhan, Inspector Rashpal Singh Dhindsa said.
