New Delhi: There is good news for housewives as they are likely to get monthly income from their husbands. The Union Ministry of Women and Child Development is mulling to prepare a draft in this regard.

Very soon, the housewives will be paid for their hard work in line with the working women. The ministry is drafting a proposal to empower women. The proposal will be introduced soon before the Union Cabinet. Once the proposed bill becomes the law, it will become mandatory for the husband to pay a definite amount of his salary to his wife each month.

Union Minister of State for Women and Child Development, Krishna Tirath said, “Government is mulling over to bring a law under which husband would have to legally pay a definite amount to her wife from his salary and Ministry has started preparing a draft in this regard.”
According to Krishna Tirath, the government has also planned to introduce the draft bill in the Parliament soon.

Notably, 90 percent women of the country indulge in household works after getting married but they do not get any salary for it. The socially accepted behavior becomes a tragedy when a woman gets divorced or becomes widow and she left with nothing for her survival.

The minister further added that the initiative is being taken to empower housewives. The discount in registry of a flat or property in the name of housewives is already quite popular. Similarly, there will be an attempt to bring a law under which homely women would be legally empowered to get paid.

Money will be deposited in wife’s account

A senior official has said that as per the draft, a husband will be liable to pay 10 to 20 percent of the monthly salary to his wife. From a daily laborer to a top executive of any company will come under the ambit of the proposed law. Husbands are required to open bank accounts in the names of their wives and to deposit a definite amount of their salary into them. Only account holders can withdraw the cash.
