Howrah: The Howrah Municipal Corporation has decided to make special arrangements for cleanliness of the area around Pandals in the city during the Durga Puja.

In order to ensure that everything is in place, the corporation has cancelled the holidays of the staff engaged in the work. During the task, the Mayor and officials from the Mayor Council would pay regular visits to the sites.

Debashish Ghosh, a member of the Mayor Council, said, “We have cancelled the holidays of the staff responsible for the cleanliness.”

There would be a special department in the Corporation headquarter. During this period, not only will the cleaning staff be present in the area, but members of the Mayor Council would also keep a strict vigil.

Moreover, the ghats in the city would be cleaned for emersion of the Idols. Also people would be restricted from throwing unwanted waste in the river Ganges.

According to Ghosh, the council is also trying to make people, puja organisation aware of the cleanliness of the environment. Last year, 19 Puja organizers had won prizes for cleanliness drive.
