New Delhi: Pragati Maidan is going to be a hot spot for book lovers as 9-day long 20th World Book Fair commenced here from Saturday (February 25). Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister Kapil Sibal has inaugurated the fair, which will showcase the tie between literature and Indian cinema. The special attraction of the fair will be the celebration of 100 years of both Delhi and Indian cinema as well as 150th birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore.

Major attractions of the fair

The hall number seven has been named as ‘theme pavilion’, which will provide visitors with material and books on the Indian cinema. The screening of literature based films, workshops and seminars will be organized this year. A special exhibition regarding the completion of 100 years of Delhi is also being held. Books on Delhi’s complete history will be available here. Apart from that, a special exhibition will be displayed on the occasion of 150th birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore in hall number six.

Children’s corner: A corner has been dedicated to children in hall number 14. Informative programmes will also be organized here for children.

Literary and cultural activities: A variety of programmes like workshops, book release, seminars and screenings will be carried out every day in hall number 6, 8 and 14. Sahitya Kala Parishad and Delhi government will conduct cultural programmes at Lal Chowk on daily basis.

Celebrities likely to visit book fair: Many celebrities, APJ Abdul Kalam, Shashi Tharoor, Suhel Seth among others, writers, novelists are expected to grace the occasion with their presence.
