London: 'X-Men' actor Hugh Jackman says he hates impostors using his identity online because pranksters have already succeeded in fooling many of his friends.

The 43-year-old actor, who is a member of social networking sites Facebook and Twitter, only signed up in a bid to foil unscrupulous users who have been mimicking his name online, Daily star reported.

"There are 360 fake Hugh Jackmans on Facebook. My friends think they are conversing with me but they're not. The idea of people pretending to be me and others believing it is me is frightening. I want to encourage the impersonators to have a life," he said.

Jackman recently admitted he was initially deterred from becoming an actor because he thought people would think he was gay.

"I would love to say I was Billy Elliot, but I wasn't. My dad was like, 'Terrific', but my brother was like, 'Ah, you poof!' I was only about 10 or 11, but I remember thinking that this is not a good thing," he had said.
