New Delhi: Deepika Padukone romanced Akshay Kumar in 'Housefull' and 'Chandni Chowk...' but in their upcoming film 'Desi Boyz' the duo share a love-hate relationship, which the actress says was difficult considering her fondness for the actor.

Deepika is paired with John Abhraham while Akshay will be seen romancing Chitrangda Singh in the movie, which hits theatres this week. The film marks the debut of Rohit Dhawan, the song of filmmaker David Dhawan.

"It was tough for me to play a part where I don't like Akshay. I am extremely fond of Akshay. I have done my first few films with him and this is my third film. To be so comfortable with him in real life and then pretend not to like him in front of the camera is very difficult but as actors we have to step into the world of make-belief," Deepika said.

The actress, however, is excited to do something which is not expected.

"Many would have expected Akshay and I to be together as a pair but then there wouldn't have been any novelty about it. Akshay is there in my scenes with John. Since the three of us share good friendship off the camera, the chemistry is visible on screen too," said Deepika.

The actress, who has been part of many commercial potboilers after starting her career with Shah Rukh Khan starrer 'Om Shanti Om', believes that the film belongs to Akshay and John.

"The film eventually belongs to the boys, their friendship and their journey. However, this is one journey which would be incomplete without the presence of the ladies.

For example my track with John is indeed important because it is love between us that makes him do things that he isn't too keen about," Deepika said.

The actress will next be seen in 'Cocktail' and 'Race2'.
