Just a few days after wrestler Narsingh Yadav tested positive for doping, another Rio-bound athlete, the only shot-putter from India, Inderjeet Singh tested positive for prohibited drugs in A test conducted by National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) on 22 June.

In an interview given to a private television channel, Inderjeet expressed his dejection over the news. He also hinted at a possible controversy behind the untimely revelation.

Inderjeet confessed to crying the entire night after the news broke, adding that it takes a long time to reach a commanding position in any sport and such incidents break the spirit of the player.

Inderjeet said it is too soon for him to be able to comment on his future course of action as he will have to consult his lawyers regarding the matter. It is noteworthy that his previous record has been totally clean and this is the first time he has failed a doping test.
