The 25-year-old Perera, who has been the pick of the bowlers for Kings XI Punjab team in the ongoing Champions League T20 tournament, said that having change-ups helped him leave the batsmen guessing. "I am using lot of variations in my bowling technique. When someone hits a six, I like to bowl yorkers. I have lot of variations may be a slow ball and a leg cutter, I think I am quite successful with my variations," Perera added.

In the ongoing CLT20, KXIP have so far won both of their opening games against Hobart Hurricanes and Barbados Tridents played at Mohali. In both the games, Perera has impressed with his bowling, returning figures of 3-0-17-2 against Hurricanes, in which he also contributed with the bat, and 3-0-15-2 bowling figures in the game against the Tridents.

Among the upcoming games, KXIP now faces Northern Districts and Cape Cobras at Mohali on Friday and Sunday.Perera admits that T20 is a batsman dominated game and a bowler has to put in extra efforts if he has to come out on top. "I think as a bowler it is very difficult to bowl in T20s because everyone is looking for runs. T20, I think is a batsman's game because as a batsman I know I can hit 20 runs, I can hit everywhere...that's why as a bowler it is hard to bowl in T20s."

Asked if there was any team in particular which KXIP would like to beat in the CLT20, the Sri Lankan all-rounder said, "last IPL, I didn't play because I had to go for my national duties. We lost the finals. This time our main goal is to win the Champions League trophy".

Asked about the state of Sri Lankan cricket at the moment, he said, "at the moment the team is working hard. This moment also, I heard some news from Sri Lanka, everyone has started to practice. Our main target is the upcoming World Cup. I think as a team for six months we have done pretty well."

Apart from playing cricket, Perera, who has 100 plus wickets in the ODIs, is fond of watching English movies while his wife is a great fan of Hindi films. "My wife is a great Bollywood fan and likes action heroes like Akshay Kumar. She also likes films based on love stories. Currently she is travelling with me. Sometimes, I also watch some Hindi movies and my wife translates the language for me. Two days back also, we watched a Bollywood movie together," Perera said.

While Perera would like to travel to different parts of Punjab, but for the moment he likes to relish Tandoori chicken in his hotel room here.
