Farrukhabad:  Clashes broke out on Thursday between Congress workers and IAC activists in Farrukhabad as supporters of External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid and activist Arvind Kejriwal continued their protests against each other.

Despite tight security in place several Congress workers shouted slogans and raised black flags protesting against IAC and Arvind Kejriwal.

The police chased away the protesters and there was no report of anyone getting injured, sources said.
It is believed that Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) members backing Kejriwal were brandishing sticks and ‘lathis’ that irked Congress workers and lead to the clashes.

Interestingly, a strong force of 1400 farmers led by Bharatiya Kisan Union had gathered at the rally venue for protection of Kejriwal and his aides.
The route of Indian Against Corruption (IAC) activist Kejriwal, arriving here from Lucknow by road, was changed keeping in mind the protests but as soon as the Congressmen came to know of it they rushed towards Lohia Park - the rally venue - forcing police to push them back.

Kejriwal was reportedly shown black flags at Malikpur about 30-kms from here in Kannauj district after which the route was changed, police sources said.
About 100 to 150 Congressmen donning black bands and handkerchief to register their protest against the IAC and BKU activists came face-to-face outside the block office, police said.
After raising slogans against each other they had a minor skirmish though no one was injured in the incident, police said adding, they proceeded their respective ways thereafter.
Earlier, IAC had declared to protest in Farrukhabad against alleged charges of bungling in a trust run by Union Minister Salman Khurshid and his wife. Farrukhabad is the Lok Sabha constituency represented by Khurshid.

Following this Khurshid quoted controversy by saying "Let them come and visit Farrukhabad. But let him also return from Farrukhabad." This was seen as a murder threat by the activist.

Earlier, the Congress activists and Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) members, who had vowed to thwart any attempt to harm Kejriwal during his visit to the district, were also involved in a minor scuffle at the Avas Vikas tri-section.
